The construction, restoration or adjustment of buildings is inextricably linked to their historic study. That’s why Smith Heritage proudly call themselves construction historians. Often clients wish to upgrade inefficient glazing. In order to secure approval for sensitive renovations, we often need to identify the age of original features. Through glazing expertise and our in-house library, we analyse timbers, glass beading, and design styles to accurately date them and advise of appropriate actions to secure approval. We’re experts in dating, mortar analysis, sourcing lost or rare techniques and plans, and other methods used to determine exactly what your project requires for successful completion.
Unwavering dedication to character
We will always work with you to deliver the best in quality, character and accuracy. During our work on a 17th century property, we were tasked with restoration of original stone structures. Matching stone for the masonry work could no longer be sourced conventionally as the original quarry had long since closed. Using our expansive network of specialist suppliers, we engaged a specialist stonemason to identify and sources matching stone, both through recycling opportunities and by securing supply with near-identical characteristics based on material analysis and evaluation of the source site geology.
